903 A Street House

This is the house at 903 A Street that was our first home in Eureka.  It was part of the abandoned freeway right-of-way between 7th and 9th streets.   When Caltrans realized they were never going to build the freeway right through the middle of town that they had originally contemplated, they put this home, along with about 60 others on the auction block. We purchased this 2200 square foot home, built in 1904, in a sealed bid auction.   It was a delightful home, and we still own it.  It is rented to relatives. The photo above was taken when we purchased it in 1998. We painted the house in 2006 and the photos below show the way it looks now.
